How to Make Ginger Tea?

Ginger is the underground stem of the plant called “Zingiber officinale.” It is being used both as a spice and medicine. Women have used it as an important ingredient in various dishes for centuries. Ginger is consumed in various forms, including beverages. Ginger tea is a soothing beverage ideal for consumption in cold weather, but can also be taken in summer. So it’s an all-time favorite for many. A dose of ginger adds an extra taste to ordinary tea. In many houses, it is brewed in the evenings and drunk by all the family members. Do you know how to make ginger tea? This blog will show you a simple procedure to make tasty ginger tea at home in a few minutes. 

Did you know that ginger tea is consumed in several countries? In Singapore and Malaysia, it’s called “teh halia.” In the Philippines, it is referred to as “salabat.” Likewise, it has a different name in every country. 

Gingerols and shogaols are the primary antioxidant compounds found in ginger. These are also anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic. Before getting into the details of making tea, let’s take a glimpse at the health benefits of this delicious beverage. How to Make Fresh Ginger Tea

Ingredients Needed

  • A few pieces of fresh ginger (1 tablespoon of chopped ginger for 1 cup of water)
  • Water
  • Add-ins (Optional)
  • Fresh turmeric
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Fennel seeds
  • Orange peels

Simple Procedure 

  1. Peel it, if you haven’t done it already. Peeling is necessary only if the ginger is not organic or contains dirt on its outer surface.
  2. Chop the ginger into small pieces or grate it.
  3. Boil it in water for around 7 – 12 minutes.
  4. Include any of your favorite add-ins (optional) in the water.
  5. After 12 minutes, strain the mixture into a large mug.
  6. Add sugar (or maple syrup), honey, lemon, or orange juice for a better taste.
  7. Serve hot. Otherwise, keep the tea in the refrigerator for an hour and serve cold.

How to Make Ginger Root Tea

An easy way to make ginger tea is by following these steps: – Get some fresh ginger (approximately 1 tablespoon chopped per cup), honey or lemon (optional), and potable water The most intense flavor is achieved through peeling and chopping finely (or grating) ginger. Then put these prepared gingers in a pot of boiling water; let them boil over low heat for between 7-12 minutes depending on how strong you wish it (use a shorter period if you want something milder). You also may steep grated spiced root extract within another container containing hot water (10 min). After having dealt with these ingredients in any way, take a sieve or a strainer so that you can strain out teas which would remove any particles), sprinkle it with your preferred sweetener, and enjoy drinking cozy cupsful!

How to Make Ginger Tea with Milk?

Milk contains most of the essential nutrients, such as protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals like calcium. Therefore, your ginger tea becomes tastier and healthier when milk is added to it.  

Just as you boil the ginger in water, boil it in milk to get a flavorful drink called, “ginger milk.” This drink enhances the aromatic characteristics of ginger. Follow the same procedure given above, and mix in any of your favorite add-ins like fennel seeds. Finally, serve hot or cold.

Some Variations of Ginger Tea 

Now that you know the basics of how to make ginger tea, here are a couple of different methods/variations of making ginger tea. Find out which one tastes better!

1. Ginger-Mint Tea

The goodness of fresh mint leaves should never be underestimated. They are rich in nutrients and help get rid of indigestion problems. You might already know that mint masks bad breath. Mint also helps you get relief from cold, and it’s pretty easy to add it to your diet. By making ginger-mint tea, you can enjoy the health benefits of both ginger and mint in one go! 

After boiling the ginger in water (or milk), you will bring the mixture to a simmer. Now is the time to add a few sprigs of mint to the mixture. You can now enjoy the warmth of ginger tea combined with the coolness of mint!

2. Ginger-Cinnamon Orange Tea

Cinnamon is widely available and affordable too. It possesses high medicinal properties and has been used since ancient times. Cinnamon also contains antioxidants like polyphenols. Therefore, a mix of ginger and cinnamon will be the perfect choice for a healthy, nourishing drink in the morning or evening! 

Add one-fourth of a stick of cinnamon to the simmering mixture of ginger and water. After straining the mixture, add 1 tablespoon of orange juice to it. If required, add a sweetener, or honey, sit back, and drink your ginger-cinnamon orange tea!

Who Shouldn’t Take? 

Although ginger tea is full of nutrients and can act as a herbal medicine, some people must limit its consumption. Individuals with underlying conditions like diabetes must get their doctor’s advice on how much they can consume per day. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor/healthcare provider before adding ginger tea to their diet. People taking blood-thinning medicines or suffering from bleeding disorders must avoid taking ginger in any form because it can interfere with the functions of blood in such people.

Ginger Tea – Might Combat Anxiety!

Many believe that this tea can calm the brain and help reduce anxiety. Some components interact with the serotonin receptors of the brain. Serotonin is known as the “mood-enhancing hormone.” Several doctors believe that ginger tea helps you unwind and relax. However, more research is needed in this area.
